Omaezaki is a port city in Japan's Shizuoka Prefecture (Honshu Island's Chubu Region) with population around 35,000. The city is approx 130 km (80 mi) south of Shizuoka City (prefecture's capital). The village was established in the late-19th-century (1889) and received town status in 1955, and city status in 2004 (after merging with Hamaoka Town).
Port Omaezaki (locode JPOMZ) serves mainly commercial fishing vessels. The city's economy is also based on green tea cultivation (growing of tea bushes and the leaves processing). Domestic tourism is seasonal and largely based on watersports activities, and especially windsurfing, surfing and bodyboarding.
National Route 150/highway connects Omaezaki with Shimizu-ku and Naka-ku. Trains (via Shizuoka City) connect to Tokyo to the northeast (travel time 2,5 hours) and Osaka to the west via Nagoya (3,5-4 hours). Drive distances are: to Tokyo (~230 km / 140 mi) and to Osaka (~310 km / 190 mi).
