Pago Pago is port town on Tutuila Island and the capital of American Samoa (USA unincorporated territory) with population around 4,000. City'ss economy is based on tourism and tuna fishing and canning. The US Samoa is among the 9 members of SPCA (South Pacific Cruise Alliance) - together with Guam USA, American Samoa USA, Pitcairn UK, Cook Islands, French Polynesia, Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, Wallis and Futuna. For season 2020 were scheduled a total of 723 cruise ship calls to SPCA-member ports and destinations.

The city is served by Tafuna Airport (international), connecting Pago Pago to Hawaii (Honolulu) and Western Samoa. Inter-island flights are offered by Samoa Airways (state-owned flag carrier). The airport is often used by US military aircraft flying in South Pacific as this is region's only airport fitted with TACAN (tactical air navigation system).

Pago Pago is associated with its harbor (American Samoa's main / largest seaport), "Pago Pago" is usually applied to the whole harbour area plus all villages in it. From 1878 to 1951, the area was coaling and repair station for USA's Navy and known as "US Naval Station Tutuila". In January 1942 the harbor was bombed by a Japanese submarine. In September 2009, an earthquake in the South Pacific sent tsunami to Pago Pago and the surrounding areas causing severe damages to villages and buildings, as well as an unknown number of deaths.

Until 1980 was operated an aerial tramway over the harbor, but on April 17, an US Navy plane struck the cable and soon the tramway was closed. In 2010, the cable was harmed by Cyclone Wilma and fell into the harbour.

Cargo shipping service is provided by China Navigation Company (CNCo, aka Swire Shipping, subsidiary of Swire Group), after the acquisition in 2013 of Polynesia Line. Swire Shipping provides regularly scheduled containership service linking Pago Pago with Tahiti (Papeete), Western Samoa (Apia) and California USA (Oakland, Los Angeles).
