Paranagua is a major seaport and city in Parana state (Brazil) with population around 150,000. Port Paranagua also serves tanker ships (petroleum products), Ro-Ro ships (car carriers / automobiles), bulk carriers (lumber, fertilizers, paper, salt, sugar, soy beans). In 2014, Port Paranagua was ranked Brazil's 7th largest by export value.
- Established in 1648, this is Parana's oldest city, famous for Port Parana that serves as sea link for Curitiba (state's capital) located approx 110 km (68 ml) to the north. Paranagua is one of Brazil's biggest cargo ports, with capacity to handle large container ships..
- The municipality holds 17% of the Bom Jesus Biological Reserve (established 2012) and also contains Ilha do Mel State Park and Ilha do Mel Ecological Station (on Ilha do Mel / Honey Island) at Paranagua Bay.
- City's economy is based on cargo shipping. The deepwater Port Paranagua dates back to 16th century, but was officially established in 1872 (as a private wharf). The new (state-owned) port was officially inaugurated in 1935. It exports the largest volumes of agricultural products compared to all Brazilian seaports, especially grain.
