Pembroke Dock (Wales)

Pembroke Dock is a port town in southwestern Wales (UK), located on the Cleddau river's banks. The settlement was originally a fishing village (named Paterchurch until 1814) whicj expanded following the construction of the Pater Dockyard / Royal Naval Dockyard (naval base / harbour facilities) here. Pembroke Dock is the Pembrokeshire County's 3rd largest town (population around 10,00) following Milford Haven and Haverfordwest.

The town is served by a railway station and the A477 road (running through Pembroke Dock from St Clears to Haverfordwest). The port has a ferry terminal serving twice-daily scheduled ferries to Rosslare (Ireland) operated by the company IRISH FERRIES.

The Pembroke Refinery is owned and operated by Valero Energy Corporation (1980-founded, San Antonio Texas USA-headquartered company) that specializes in manufacturing (from crude oil) and marketing of transportation fuels, petrochemical products and natural-gas condensate/liquids. Pembroke's oil refinery is at Rhoscrowther. The facility was opened in 1964 as Texaco's first and only refinery in the UK. In the UK, Texaco operated under the brand name Regent Oil Company. Texaco Inc was acquired by Chevron in 2000. In 2011, Valero bought the oil refinery from Chevron.

• In August 1992, Texaco offered to purchase the entire Rhoscrowther village (near Hundleton) which was adjacent to the oil refinery. Texaco's offer was accepted by all the residents in 1994. Following the purchase, all properties were demolished, except 5 houses, a church (14th-century) and a farm.
• In late-June 2020, Port Cardiff signed with Valero a long-term agreement to use Cardiff Docks' storage and distribution terminal (adjacent to ABP's Roath Basin). The terminal is served by oil tankers importing Valero's road fuels (petrol, ULSD-ultralow sulphur diesel, biofuels) and heating fuels. From Cardiff, the fuels are distributed to Valero's storage and distribution terminals in the UK-Ireland, thus accessing ~1,5 million people living in Cardiff metro (~half of Wales' population).

Pembroke Power Station (building cost GBP 800 million) is owned by Npower Ltd (electricity generator and supplier of gas and electricity), which is a subsidiary company of RWE AG (Essen Germany-based electric utility company). The electricity-generating plant uses as fuel natural gas. The station was opened in 2012 and is currently ranked Europe's largest gas-fired power station (installed capacity 2200 MWe). Pembroke Power Station currently has 5x operational units (400 MWe generators) and supplies with electricity ~3,5 million UK homes and businesses.
