Peter Island BVI (UK Virgin Islands)

Peter Island (BVI) is a private island (sized 720 hectares / 7,2 km2) located approx 8 km (5 mi) southwest from Tortola Island (Road Town). In the early-17th-century, near the harbour were built a fort and slave pens to facilitate privateering and the slave trade from Angola (Southern Africa).

In 1978, the island was purchased by a sailor who established the Peter Island Resort (in the harbour area). Peter Island is the 5th largest among the British Virgin Islands. In the period 1978-2001, the island was owned by Amway Corporation (US company specializing in multi-level-marketing). Since 2001, island's sole owner is the Van Andel family (co-owners of Amway).

As tourist attractions, Peter Island has hiking and biking trails and great beaches, among which Honeymoon and White Bay are guests only. Deadman's Bay beach (the biggest) is crescent-shaped, shaded by palm trees and has ba, and restaurant serving boaters. Peter Island Resort is a 52-room hotel accessible by sea (boats / yachts) and air (helicopters).

For the first time, Peter Island BVI was included as cruise port in the schedule of the Crystal Cruises yacht Crystal Esprit/now Nat Geo Islander 2. Next table shows the ship's itinerary as call ports and times. Prices started from USD 5100 pp (double occupancy).
