Piesport-Mosel is a Moselle River cruise port and small town in Germany's Rhineland-Palatinate state (Bernkastel-Wittlich district) with population around 2,000. The local scenery is marked by Moselle Valley's vineyards and woods.
As cruise port, Piesport is located on the river’s right bank and between Bernkastel-Kues and Trier.
The surrounding region was first settled by the Romans and since then is famous as a major winegrowing region with its scenic sloped vineyards. The annual Roman Wine Press Festival (Romisches Kelterfest) is held in October's second weekend. During the Middle Ages (5th-15th centuries) the town was part of Kurfurstentum Trier (Electorate of Trier, aka Treves / 898-1801). Between 1794-1815 it was ruled by France and between 1815-1946 was part of Prussia. In 1946 (after WW2 / 1939-1945) it is part of the German state Rhineland-Palatinate. Town's current-day economy is based on winegrowing. With 413 hectares of vineyards, Piesport is ranked Mosel region's biggest winegrowing center, producing mainly Riesling (white) grapes.
As cruise port, Piesport is included in the regular schedule of the German cruise tour company Phoenix Reisen. The next table shows Calypso ship's 9-day itinerary as a ports sequence. Prices start from ~USD 1600 per person (double occupancy rates).
