Pittsburgh PA is an Ohio River cruise port and city in Pennsylvania state's Allegheny County, with a population of around 305,000. By the metro population (of over 2,35 million) the city is ranked state's 2nd-largest (after Philadelphia). Pittsburgh is located in southwestern Pennsylvania and at the confluence of three rivers (Ohio, Allegheny, and Monongahela). The city is best known for its numerous bridges (446 / 3 more than in Venice Italy), skyscrapers (30), Fort Pitt Blockhouse (pre-revolutionary historic building), Point State Park (in downtown, at the rivers' confluence), museums, nature parks, research centers, colleges, and universities.
In its not-so-distant past, the city was famous for production steel, aluminum, glass, petroleum, foods, autos, electronics, as well as shipbuilding. The current-day economy is heavily based on technologies, including software engineering, robotics, energy research, cyber defense. By corporate headquarter employment, it is the USA's 3rd - after NYC and Chicago. Among the largest corporations with headquarters, research, and technology offices in Pittsburgh PA are Google, Apple, Microsoft, Facebook, IBM, Bosch, Nokia. Major annual sporting events held in the city include Three Rivers Regatta, Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix, Dirty Dozen Cycle Race, Pittsburgh Marathon, Great Race 10K, Head of the Ohio Regatta.
The city is served by two airports - Pittsburgh International (civil-military) and the regional Arnold Palmer (approx 53 km / 33 mi southeast of Pittsburgh). By annually shipped river cargo tonnage, Port Pittsburgh is ranked USA's 20th-largest (nearly 34 million tons) and USA's 9th-largest (domestic trade).
