Ponce is a port city on Isla de Caja de Muertos (island's southern coast) in southern Puerto Rico (one of USA's unincorporated territories). By population (around 170,000) the city is ranked Puerto Rico's 2nd largest city (after San Juan).

Ponce serves as governmental seat of the same-named municipality and regional center for Puerto Rico's federal government and commonwealth agencies. The municipality is on the Caja de Muertos Island's southern coast (on the Caribbean Sea). Ponce Pueblo (downtown district) is shared by several barrios and is approx 5 km (3 mi) inland from the coast. The municipality is Puerto Rico's 2nd largest by land area.

Most visited by tourists is the downtown area, containing most of the city's attractions. In 2007, the cruise port handled 6,000+ ship tourists. The city is famous for its museums, libraries, art galleries, nature parks, numerous historical buildings (residences, mansions, estates, schools, bridges) and annually held carnivals and festivals.
