Propriano is a port town on Corsica Island (France), located on Valinco Gulf. The small town has population around 3,000.
From the Propriano resort cruise ship tourists can explore Ajaccio - Corsica's capital city, as well as the unspoilt scenery of the island's interior. Corsica is a mountainous island, with highest elevation point Mount Cinto (8892 ft / 2710 m). The coast is indented in the west and mostly rocky. Iin the east there are swamps and lagoons. From the mountains descend many torrential streams. The biggest rivers are Golo and Tavignano. Fought over by Roman, Greek, Byzantine, Saracen and Vandal, the Genoese added the isle to France in 1768. During Napoleonic Wars (1803-1815) and the French Revolution (1789-1799), the island was twice held by the British.
