Pylos is a port city in Peloponnese (Greece), part of Pylos-Nestoras municipality and the main port on Navarino Bay. The town has population around 3,000.

Pylos has a long history as it was a majjor kingdom in Mycenaean Greece. During the 13th century it became part of Frankish Principality of Achaea and popular by its Italian name "Navarino". In the 1280s was built the Old Navarino castle.

From 1417 until 1500 (when conquered by the Ottomans), Pylos was ruled by the Republic of Venice and later used as naval base by the Turks, who built the new fortress here. Pylos' was ruled by the Ottoman Empire until the  Greek War of Independence (1821-1829).

Road 82 highway starts in downtown Pylos and runs to the east linking to Sparta and Kalamata. Gialova wetland (between Gialova and Voidokilia bay) is among Greece's 10 major lagoons and designated as one of Europe's largest bird areas. The lagoon is the southernmost stopover of migrating from the Balkans birds on their way to North Africa, providing shelter to around 225 bird species.
