Ronne/Roenne is a Baltic Sea cruise port, the principal port and largest town on Bornholm Island (Denmark). The town has population around 14,000 and land area approx 29 km2 (11 mi2). Bornholm has total land area 588 km2 (227 mi2), total population around 40,000 and highest elevation point (Mt Rytterknaegten) 162 m (531 ft).

Bornholm's biggest towns (with population over 1000/1K) are Ronne (14K), Nexo (4K), Aakirkeby (2K), Hasle (1,5K), Allinge-Sandvig (1,5K) and Svaneke (1K).

Due to its natural deepwater harbor and strategic position in the Baltic Sea, Port Ronne (locode DKRNN) has a rich history highlighted by Swedish and German rules. The settlement was developed as an important fishing port (sourcing herring). The town is best known for its cobbled streets, half-(low-)timbered buildings, museums. Most tourists are from Baltic countries (Denmark, Germany, Sweden, Poland).

Two streets (Laksegade and Storegade) contain most of the town's historic houses - former trade buildings and homes of noblemen and merchants. Best-known landmarks include Bornholm Museum (1893-founded), Defence Museum (themed on the island's military history), St Nicolas Church (1744-built), Smedegards (riding school), Ronne Lighthouse (1880-built).

Regularly scheduled ferries connect Ronne to mainland Denmark and Poland. A catamaran (high-speed passenger ferry) connection links to Ystad (Sweden), from where there is a direct train line to Copenhagen (Denmark). TT-LINE ferries offer direct crossings to Swinoujscie (Poland).

Bornholm Airport is located approx 5 km (3 mi) southeast of downtown. The airport serves regularly scheduled domestic flights (by DAT / Danish Air Transport) connecting to mainland Denmark (Aalborg, Billund, Copenhagen). Seasonal flights (by Alsie Express) connect to Sonderborg (Southern Denmark).

2022 was Port Roenne's record year for cruise shipping, with handled 65 calls. A further 14 calls were made to other Bornholm ports, mostly by smaller-sized expedition ships. So far, the Port's largest passenger ship is MSC Preciosa (333 m in length).

In 2023, the Port had booked 48 cruise ship calls (60+ in total to Bornholm).

Bornholm Island Denmark cruise terminal

Cruise ships to Bornholm Island dock (anchor) either at Ronne (southwestern part) or Gudhjem (northeast coast). Some vessels may dock at Nexo (on the southeast coast).

In 2019, Port Roenne completed an infrastructure development project (dock extensions) and now can handle larger cruise ships. Prior to 2019, the Port had the capacity to accommodate passenger vessels with max LOA length 240 m (787 ft), mainly from the fleets of AIDA and HAL-Holland America. The expanded docking facilities now attract larger boats and new brands like Celebrity, RCI-Royal Caribbean, TUI, Cunard, Princess, P&O UK, MSC, NCL-Norwegian.
