Rose Island Bahamas (Sandy Toes Beach)

Rose Island is an elongated island located approx 5 km (3 mi) to the east from New Providence Island (where is The Bahamas' capital city Nassau) and the adjacent Atlantis Paradise Island. Rose Island has no roads and no permanent population (only several private properties owned by foreigners). Most of the island is made up of an inland lagoon (surrounded by a beach) located in its center.

The island is best-known as one of the locations featured in the movie Thunderball (1965/the 4th in the James Bond series, and starring Sean Connery). In the popular film, off the coast of Rose Island crashed the hijacked RAF (Royal Air Force) strategic jet bomber Avro Vulcan, carrying two atomic bombs.

Rose Island is mainly accessed from Nassau (approx 25-min boat ride) on chartered boats/yachts and day tours to Sandy Toes (private beach resort destination). Tourist activities include swimming with pigs, snorkeling with turtles, kayaking, motorboat excursions, sailing, fishing. On the island can be also organized group and private events (max capacity ~200 people), including anniversary celebrations, parties, company retreats, destination weddings. Overnight accommodation (2-bedroom bungalow) rentals are also offered.

As a ship cruise destination, Rose Island Bahamas was included for the first time in the 2022 and 2023 schedules of the luxury travel brand SeaDream Yacht Club.
