Rosslare Europort (fka Rosslare Harbour) is among Ireland's new seaports located in County Wexford. Port Rosslare handles mainly cruiseferries (car-passenger and freight) connecting Ireland with Wales (Fishguard, Pembroke) and France (Cherbourg). As ferry port, Rosslare is the best departure port for regularly scheduled cruise travel options to the UK and Europe. The port is easily accessible from both Dublin (road distance 170 km / 100 mi, driving time ~2 hours) and Cork (road distance 195 km / 120 mi, driving time ~2,5 hours).
The ferry route Ireland-Wales (Rosslare-Fishguard / crossing time 3,5 hours) is currently operated by STENA LINE with 14 weekly crossings. STENA also serves the Ireland-France route Rosslare-Cherbourg (crossing time 17 hours) with 3 weekly cruise crossings. The Ireland-Wales route Rosslare-Pembroke (crossing time 4 hours) is served by IRISH FERRIES with 14 weekly crossings.
Since January 2021, DFDS Seaways operates the Ireland-France route Rosslare-Dunkirk. Along with STENA LINE's expanded schedule, the new direct Ireland-France service offers 15 weekly crossings (roundtrips) which nearly tripled the number of routes from Europort. The service aimed at truck drivers and logistic companies (previously using the UK's land bridge to mainland-Europe) who now can avoid Brexit-related delays - like customs checks and additional paperwork.
Rosslare is Ireland's second most important cargo port (after Dublin) and the country's second-busiest by ship calls and annual GT (gross tonnage). Rosslare Harbour has 4 berths (wharves for docking of passenger and cargo ships). The port is served by one RNLI lifeboat (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) and one IRCG-Irish Coast Guard rescue helicopter (stationed at Waterford Airport). As cargo port, Rosslare handles car carriers (importing new vehicles into Ireland), bulk carriers and container ships.
The seaport is operated by the state-owned company Iarnrod Eireann (aka Irish Rail) - a CIE subsidiary (Coras Iompair Eireann / 1945-founded statutory corporation). The 1987-founded Irish Rail operates the country's national railway network, including InterCity and Commuter trains, DART (Dublin Area Rapid Transit / commuter railways) and freight-train shipping services. Irish Rail provides connections between Dublin (Connolly Station) and Rosslare Europort (train station). Rosslare's railway station is located at approx 5 min walking distance from the Passenger Terminal Building.
As cruise port, Rosslare Europort was included in the 2020 schedule of the Phoenix Reisen-owned liner MS Deutschland. Next is listed the 12-day itinerary (themed "Ausgesuchte Ziele rund um Grosbritannien) roundtrip from Germany (homeport Bremerhaven).
