Rovigo (Italy)

Rovigo is a Po River cruise port and town in northeastern Italy's Veneto, with a population of around 50,000. The town is located approx 80 km (50 mi) southwest of Venezia (by train) and approx 40 km (25 mi) southwest of Padua. Rovigo extends between two waterways (Adige River and Canal Bianco) and is approx 40 km (25 mi) west of the Adriatic Sea.

The settlement was established in the early-9th-century (initially named Rodigium). The town became fully-fortified by the mid-12th-century when its brick walls were finished. Town's best-known tourist attractions include Rovigo Duomo (11th-century cathedral), Castle ruins with two towers (10th-century), Madonna del Soccorso Chiesa (La Rotonda, 17th-century church), Immacolata Concezione Chiesa (12th-century church), San Francesco Chiesa (16th-century Gothic church), Town Hall (16th-century), Palazzo Roverella (Renaissance palace), Palazzo Roncale (mid-16th-century Renaissance palace), Palazzo Venezze (early-18th-century palace), Pinacoteca dei Concordi (art gallery).
