Sept-Iles is a port town in Quebec Canada (Cote-Nord region), with population around 26,000. Port Sept-Iles is one of all 9 St Lawrence cruise ports of call - together with Quebec City, Trois-Rivieres, Saguenay, Baie-Comeau, Montreal, Gaspe, Havre-Saint-Pierre and Magdalen Islands.
Sept-Iles is among state's northernmost sites with paved road connections linking to Quebec's road network. The only settlements on this paved road network which are farther north are Fermont, Chisasibi and Radisson (province's extreme western part). The remaining, higher latitude settlements are mostly isolated villages, with limited seasonal access to gravel roads.
Iron ore concentrate from IOC (Iron Ore Company of Canada) activities in Labrador City is transported by Quebec North Shore & Labrador Railway and shipped to markets around the world from Sept-Iles port facilities. Iron ore from Bloom Lake and Wabush is also shipped at the port facilities of Point Noire.
Sept-Iles is the forefront of Quebec's tourism industry. Big-cruise-ship tourism was inaugurated in 2009 with the calls of Norwegian Spirit (NCL) and ms Maasdam (Holland America). Port's cruising business is promoted by the 2007-founded corporation DSIN (Destination Sept-Iles Nakauinanu), being financed by government and privately-owned travel agencies, and also by the administration of Innu community (Quebec's aboriginal inhabitants). Port's cruising season is in September-October.
In season 2017, the cruise port handled 5 ships - Seven Seas Navigator (RSSC-Regent), Oceania Insignia (Oceania), Marco Polo (CMV), Saga Sapphire (Saga), RMS Queen Mary 2 (Cunard). In 2017 were introduced new Innu-themed activities for arriving cruise tourists, including chainsaw wood sculpting, traditional folk dancing, pig roasts, tea ceremony, live performance by local artisans and folk singers, bonfires, as well as a classic car show and scrap-metal sculpture exhibition.
In season 2018, the cruise port received 4 ship calls and 7960 tourists, including the first-timers Amadea (Phoenix Reisen), Arcadia (P&O UK) and Silver Wind (Silversea).
