Seydisfjordur is a port town in Iceland's Eastern Region, located at the innermost point of the same-named fjord. Town's population is around under 1,000.

A road over Seydisfjordur mountain pass connects the town to the rest of Iceland, approx 27 km (17 ml) to the ring road and Egilsstadir. The town is surrounded by mountains on all sides, reaching up to 1085 m (3560 ft). The fjord is accessible on each side from Seydisfjordur, by following the main road through the town.

Every week, the cruiseferry MS Norrona (run by Smyril Line) links Seydisfjordur with Hanstholm (Denmark) and Torshavn (Faroe Islands). Until January 2009, it also stopped at Bergen (Norway), Scrabster (Scotland) and Lerwick (Mainland Shetland, Scotland).

The town of Seydisfjordur is famous for its old wooden buildings. Within its urban fabric, it features remnants of urban street configurations. There are also facilities for campers, camping ground, hotels, hospital, swimming pool, liquor store, library, post office, retail shops. Seydisfjordur boasts a vibrant cultural scene with arts center, local heritage museum, Technical Museum and the only 2 cinemas in the east of Iceland. LungA art festival takes place in July. Dieter Roth (world-renowned artist) had a residence and art studio in the town. Dieter Roth Academy is centered in Skaftfell cultural center.

Several waterfalls are found in Dieter Roth. A popular hiking path begins at the town center and follows the East bank of Fjardara, the river flowing through the center of Seydisfjordur. There are a total of 25 waterfalls further up the river. During the winter months, a skiing area is used in Fjardarheidi mountain pass.

Skalanes nature and heritage center lies 17 km (11 mi) east of the town. This unique nature reserve is home to a vast range of wildlife and caters for visitors and anyone who wants to explore the fjord's south side.
