Sifnos Island is part of Greece's Cyclades islands. Its main town (Apollonia) has population under 1000. However, island's principal port (for ferries and cruise ships) is Kamares (northwestern coast). Sifnos Island has total area of approx 74 km2 (29 mi2), and population around 3,000.

The island is accessed via ferries that run the route Piraeus-Kythnos-Serifos-Sifnos-Milos-Kimolos. Infrequent sailings to other Cyclades Islands are also available.

On the island's eastern shore is the village Kastro (population around 130, the island's main town until 1836). It was built on top of a high cliff and features extensive medieval remains. It is also the location of the island's archeological museum. The port town Kamares (population around 250) is on the west coast.

The name of the town is thought to come from the ancient temple of Apollo located on the site of Panayia Yeraniofora church. The 2nd-largest town is Artemonas (with a population of 800 people), thought to be named after the ancient temple of Artemis (Apollo's sister-goddess) situated at the site of Panayia Kokhi church.

There are a total of 360 churches on Sifnos Island, as per the days of the year, which is more than any other island in the Cyclades. It's no coincidence, there are also many festivals held on Sifons almost every month. A lot of churches and monasteries are historical sites with great architectural and religious interest. The most important is Panagia Chryssopigi monastery. Among the most "popular" churches on Sifnos Island, is one of the Seven Martyrs. Many couples choose to get married here. Still, Panagia Poulati is famous both for its beauty and the landscape surrounding it.
