Sihanoukville (aka Kampong Som) a port city in southwestern Cambodia and capital of Sihanoukville province, with population around 90,000. The city is located at a peninsula in Gulf of Thailand, flanked by beaches along the entire coastline and marshlands bordering with Ream National Park.

The city evolved after the construction of Sihanoukville Autonomous Port (inaugurated in June 1955) as Cambodia's gateway to international shipping trade. Port Sihanoukville is Cambodia's only deep-water port and has well-developed logistics services, warehouse (cargo storage) facilities and oil terminal.

The large beaches and nearby uninhabited islands made Sihanoukville Cambodia's best seaside resort destination. Region's natural beauty and recreational potential also resulted in increasing number of foreign residents.

Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville transport corridor is Cambodia's main trade route, handling around 2/3 of the country's trade traffic. Other major industries are fisheries, seafood processing (frozen shrimp), clothing and food production, tourism, real estate. Largest companies include Eurogate Garment Ltd, Sary Paper, K Som Textile, Javelin (steel processing), Angkor Beer. Imports are mainly from Thailand, Singapore, and China). Exports are mainly to UK, USA, Canada, Germany. Many goods are re-exported (electronics, cigarettes, cars). Main exports are timber, logs, rubber, clothes.
