Sur City (Oman)
Cruise Port schedule, live map, terminals, news
Sur City is the principal port and the capital of Oman's Ash Sharqiyah Southeastern Governorate. The port city is located on the Arabian Sea (Gulf of Oman's coast) and has population around 120,000. Oman's capital Muscat is approx 150 km (94 mi) to the northwest.
The settlement started to develop from the 6th century as a seaport serving the trade routes (goods and slaves) between East Africa and India. The town started to decline after the mid-19th century when the slave trade was outlawed and especially after the Suez Canal was opened (1869).
The city's current-day economy is largely based on shipping, shipbuilding (wooden boats), commercial fishing, domestic tourism.
Sur Port's locode is OMSUH.
As cruise port, Sur Oman was included in the 2022 schedule of the ultra-premium cruise brand Silversea. The voyage was part of the Silver Cloud ship's itinerary program as a relocation cruise from South America to Europe. Next table shows a 14-day segment of that voyage that visited Sur City.
