Tahaa Island is within the western group (Leeward Islands) of Society Islands (French Polynesia) - overseas territory of France in Pacific Ocean. The islands Tahaa and Raiatea (to the south) are enclosed by coral reef, and once were a single isle. These Society Islands are less modernized.
Tahaa Island has population around 5,000, covers land area approx 90 km2 (35 mi2), and its highest elevation point is 590 m (1940 ft). Aka Vanilla Island, Tahaa produces around 80% of French Polynesia's vanilla. It is also best known for its quality pearls production. Tahaa's administrative centre is Patio.
Tahaa and its tiny islets can be reached by boat from Raiatea Island. The short boat ride takes tourists to a beach with a scenic lagoon, and in close distance can be seen Bora Bora.
Tahaa Island cruise terminal
