Toba is a port city in Japan's Mie Prefecture (Honshu island), with population around 20,000. The port is located on Shima Peninsula and faces Ise Bay (Pacific Ocean). Most of city's land is part of Ise-Shima National Park. Toba City is also the administrative center over numerous nearby islands, the largest of which are Kamishima, Kozukumi, Ozukumijima, Sugashima, Toshijima, Sakatejima, and Mitsujima.
Main transportation links are railways (connecting to Ikenoura, Nakanogo, Shima-Akasaki, Funatsu, Kamo, Matsuo, Shiraki), highways (national routes 42, 167 and 259) and ferries (Ise Bay Ferry service between Toba and Irago / Tahara, Aichi Prefecture).
Toba City's economy is based on commercial fishing, cultured pearls (created by oyster farmers) and tourism. Main tourist attractions are Mikimoto Pearl Island (owned by Mikimoto Pearl Museum Co Ltd, specializes in pearl farming), Toba Aquarium (with 12 different environment zones, around 25,000 individuals from 1000 different marine species) and Toba Castle ruins.
