Fukuyama is a port city in Japan's Hiroshima Prefecture (Honshu island) located on Ashida River. By population (around 0,5 million) the city is ranked Hiroshima Prefecture's 2nd-largest (after Hiroshima City).

As a tourism travel destination, Fukuyama is best known for its annual Rose Festival (held in May). Other popular tourist sites include Myoo-in Temple, Taichoro Temple (behind the cruise ferry terminal), Fukuyama Castle (aka Hisamatsu Castle), Kusado Sengen (medieval commercial port town), Uono-sato (fish-processing factory). The city's economy is based on commerce (mall shopping), industry (electronics, rubber products, textiles, food processing), and communications. Fukuyama has several large malls and numerous shops for traditional Japanese merchandise.

Cruise ships and ferries usually dock in Port Fukuyama (locode JPFKY), but smaller-sized luxury ships and megayachts often dock at Tomonoura - popular for its numerous temples and shrines. The distance between Tomonoura and Fukuyama is 14 km (9 mi) or around 30-min bus travel time. Port Tomonoura (fka Tomonotsu) is a historic fishing port that serves Fukuyama City. Port Tomonoura features a circular harbour (listed in japan's top 100 historical natural sites) and is part of Setonaikai National Park.
