Tortuga Island (aka Tolinga) is located off Nicoya Peninsula's coast (Costa Rica), within an archipelago which includes several islands with white-sand beaches and lush forests. Tortuga Island is approx 22 km (14 mi) from Puntarenas. It covers land area approx 120 hectares (300 acres).

The island is adorned with tall coconut palms, sugary beaches and emerald waters. Numerous boat tour operators transport travelers to Tortuga, departing from Puntarenas or Jaco (travel time 1,5 hours). Once arrived, passengers can spend a full day on the island enjoying activities like playing volleyball, swimming and sunbathing, hiking, canopy tours and zip-line, renting water bikes, seakayaks and glass-bottom boats.

Among the island's most popular activities are scuba diving and snorkeling opportunities to view abundant marine life (angelfish, stingrays, sharks, octopus, Spinner dolphins). Unique and exclusive to all of Central America is a dive site with 3 sunken boats.
