Trevoux is a Saone River cruise port and town in Ain department (eastern France), with population around 7,000. Trevoux is actually a suburb of Lyon, created on the river's steeply and sloping  bank.

In mid-10th century, Saone River became the frontier between Charlemagne Empire and France. Due to its border location, Trevoux gained political status. From 13th century, its river toll became of huge importance, and the town built walls and a castle. In late-17th century, two sovereign princes (Anne Marie Louise d'Orléans and her successor Louis Auguste) built two monuments here - Palace of the Dombes Parliament and Montpensier Hospital (famous for its 18th-century ceramic pots collection).

In 18th century, the town became famous for the dictionary printed here by Jesuits. In the period late-19th century until 1950s, Trevoux was a global centre for synthetic diamonds manufacturing.
