Vigur Island is a small isle with length 2 km (1,2 mi) and width 400 m (1310 ft). This is a green oasis in the waters of Isafjardardjup fjord, and home of a family of ship farmers. The island is the nesting place for seabirds in spring. including Arctic terns, black guillemots and puffins.
On Vigur can be seen well-preserved relics of old farming methods, including Iceland's only windmill (1840-built, operational until 1917), a 200-year-old rowing boat (8-oar) still in use to ferry sheep to mainland Iceland. Island's wood-made houses date back to the 19th century. The famous Viktoria House (constructed in 1862) was fully restored in 1993 by National Museum of Iceland.
