Vitoria is a port city and capital of Espirito Santo state (Brazil), located on a small island within a bay where several rivers meet the sea. The city has population around 360,000 (metro around 1,9 million, ranking it Brazil's 14th-largest).
The town was founded in 1551. Vitoria island has land area 89 km2 (34 ml2), and its central part contains 4 nature parks - Fonte Grande, Gruta da Onca, Tabuazeiro and Pedra dos Olhos. This riverine island area, in addition to the main island, also includes 34 smaller islands plus a mainland portion. Originally there were a total of 50 islands, many of which were added via landfill to Vitoria Island.
