Walvis Bay is a major port city in Namibia (southern Africa), with population around 100,000 and a total area approx 29 km2 (11 ml2). Port's harbour is a natural bay providing safe refuge for vessels. The harbour is deep-water and well protected by Pelican Point (sand spit).

Walvis Bay, with its sand dunes and large bay, is an important Namibian tourism travel destination. Local tourist attractions include museum, centre of guano industry (artificial Bird Island), Dune 7, salt works, abundant bird- and marine life (including southern right whales), Kuisebmund Stadium, Langstrand (beach resort a few kilometres to the north), Export Processing Zone.

The city features large open spaces, scenic beauty and offers plenty outdoor activities, among which sandboarding, surfing, kiting, swimming, sailing, golfing. Kuiseb River Delta (Walvis Bay Lagoon and beach) attracts many locals for fishing and swimming.

Port's 1,2-ml (2-km) long sand spit allows harbour waters to remain calm even in strong winds, which attracts many luxury yachts and sailing boats to anchor here. On sand spit's ocean-facing side is the world-famous surfing location Skeleton Bay.
