"Uunartoq Hot Springs" is an island destination in southern Greenland, and country's only one where the spring is used as swimming pool, and during whole-year round. Uunartoq is an uninhabited island located between Qaqortoq and Nanortalik. It is often advertized as Greenland's only "outdoor spa" - featuring scenic views to drifting icebergs and surrounded by mountain peaks. Among country's other "hot springs" destinations is Qeqertarsuaq (Disco Island).
Uunartoq Qeqertaq Island (translated "Warming Island") is located off Greenland's east-central coast, approx 550 km (342 ml) north of Arctic Circle. The land was officially recognised as island in September 2005.
In 2002, when ice shelves in this area started to retreat, the land was still attached by glacial ice to mainland Greenland (Liverpool Land peninsula). Members of scientific community believe the newly discovered isle is a direct result of global warming. Uunartoq Qeqertaq Island has three big peninsulas, and this way resembles the letter "W".
