Winningen-Mosel is a Moselle River cruise port and resort village in Germany's Rhineland-Palatinate .state (Mayen-Koblenz district) with a population of under 500. Winningen is part of Moselgebiet von Schweich bis Koblenz (Schweich to Koblenz conservation area) on Untermosel (Lower Moselle). The village is located between Koblenz and the wine village Kobern-Gondorf. The nearest towns are Koblenz (downriver approx 5 km / 3 mi) and Cochem (upriver approx 40 km / 25 mi).
The settlement (initially named Uuidinge) was founded in the early-9th-century. In the following centuries, it was mentioned in official documents under the names Windinga, Windingun, Windingis, Wendenges, and Wendengias. In the period 1776-94 the village was occupied by French revolutionary troops, and since 1794 belonged to Prussia's Rheinprovinz (Rhine province).
Today, Winningen is best-know for its terraced vineyards along the river (producing Riesling / white wine), half-timbered houses, Moseltalbrucke (Moselle Valley Bridge (crossing over the river and carrying Bundesautobahn 61 highway), Protestant church (late-17th-century, Baroque-style) and the 10-day long annual festival Moselfest (held in August-September) which is the oldest and longest wine festival on Moselle River. Town's current-day economy is based on viticulture (winegrowing) and tourism.
Tour boats and cruise ships berth at the boat marina. Local tour boats operate on the route Cologne-Dusseldorf, with call ports Koblenz-Winningen-Treis-Cochem. As cruise port, Winningen-Mosel is included in the schedules of some of Europe's largest river cruise companies, including the German brands Nicko Cruises and Phoenix Reisen. The next tables show some of the Winningen-inclusive itineraries as port sequences and times (arrival/departure).
