Wolgast is a Baltic Sea cruise port and town in Germany's Mecklenburg-Vorpommern state (Vorpommern-Greifswald district) with population around 13,000. The town is located on Peenestrom River (strait) facing to the east Usedom Island (Germany) accessed via Blaues Wunder (movable bridge with road and railway). Due to its location, Wolgast and Anklam are considered as gateways to Usedom. Wolgast is best-known for its well-preserved historic downtown, harbor port and Peene-Werft (shipyard owned by Lurssen Werft GmbH).
Tourist attractions include Stadtgeschichtliches Museum (historical museum themed on town's history), Rungemuseum (house of Philipp Otto Runge / 1777-1810, painter), Gothic churches and chapels (13th-16th-centuries), Historisches Rathaus Wolgast (2-storey town hall), city wall ruins, Tierpark Wolgast (zoo garden), Museumshafen (harbor with the 1890-built train-ferry ship Stralsund), Dreilindengrund (Peene river recreational area popular for swimming and sunbathing).
