Worms is a Rhine River cruise port and city in Germany's Rhineland-Palatinate state (Urban district) with population around 85,000. The town is located approx 60 km (40 mi) southwest of Frankfurt. Worms is among Germany's oldest cities, competing for the title with Koln/Cologne and Trier.
The settlement was founded during the Roman Empire (0-1453 AD). Named Borbetomagus, it was the capital of First Kingdom of Burgundy (411-534 AD). The city's best-known attraction - Wormser Dom (13th-century Cathedral) - is among Germany's finest Romanesque-style churches.
The current-day city's economy is based on winemaking (specifically Liebfraumilch / semi-sweet white wine), fodder, chemicals, metal goods production.
