Zingst is a Baltic Sea port and town in Germany's Mecklenburg-Vorpommern state (Vorpommern-Rugen district), with a population of around 3,000. The town is located on Fischland-Darss-Zingst Peninsula and is part of Pomerania - historical region territorially split between Germany and Poland.
At Zingst Baltic Sea is separated from Barther Bodden (lagoon). This is a large estuary with shallow waters and a major stopover for European cranes (migratory birds) which gather here in spring and fall on their route between Germany and Spain. The eastern part of the Fischland-Darss-Zingst Peninsula is included in Nationalpark Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft (Western Pomerania Lagoon Area NP) - state's largest national park.
Until the 19th-century, Zingst was an island separated from mainland Germany by a narrow inlet (Prerowstrom) when in 1874 it was closed following a storm tide. Most of the surrounding lands are dunes with coastal white-sand beaches, making Zingst a popular summer travel destination for domestic tourists.
As a cruise port, Zingst was included in the 2019 schedule of the riverboat Saxonia (2001-built). The next table shows the ship's itinerary as ports sequences and times (arrival/departure).
