Belmond Hirondelle barge Review
Review of Belmond Hirondelle barge
The 1928-built Belmond Hirondelle barge is a former Dutch cargo vessel, that was transformed into a luxury hotel barge in 1992. In 2002, Hirondelle was refurbished again. The 8-passenger barge cruises in Southern Burgundy and the Franche-Comte region famous for its vineyards.
Accommodations on the ship include 4 staterooms (sized 9,3 m2 / 100 ft2). Three of the cabins are with twin beds, and the 4th has a double. All the en-suite bathrooms are shower-only and offer L'Occitane bath products (soap, shower gel, shampoo).
Belmond Hirondelle cruise deals normally include all meals with complimentary local wine and French cheese board, an open bar, all shore excursions (guided tours in Besancon, Victor Hugo's birthplace, for instance), also complimentary bicycles (for passenger use along the itinerary route). Optional trips (such as golf tours, hot air balloon rides) cost extra.
The ship's public spaces include a saloon (lounge & bar), sun deck with a hot tub and sun loungers. The ship is air-conditioned throughout and crewed by 4 - chef, tour guide, hostess, skipper (Captain).
