MS Douro Spirit Review
Review of MS Douro Spirit
The 2011-built MS Douro Spirit cruise ship has passenger capacity 130 (plus 30 crew/staff) and operates Douro River itineraries with roundtrip departures from homeport Oporto. The riverboat visits popular ports in Portugal and also Spain (Vega de Terron/Salamanca).
The vessel is owned by Mystic Cruises and operated via its subsidiary company Douro Azul (Portugal).
The ship is also privately chartered by the company Vantage Deluxe World Travel.
The vessel is Portugal-flagged (MMSI number 263751740) and registered in Lisbon. The shipbuilder is WestSEA (shipyard in Viana do Castelo, Portugal).
The ship has 65 staterooms on 2 decks (Main and Upper). All are outside and with French balconies (slide-opening floor-ceiling windows). All the 62 standard cabins are generously sized (14-15 m2 / 150-160 ft2). The boat also has a Junior Suite (sized 21 m2 / 225 ft2) and two Balcony Suites (sized 22 m2 / 235 ft2). Suites are with bathtub/shower bathrooms, while all other cabins are with WC-shower baths.
Excepting 7 cabins (with non-convertible Queen-size double beds), all other rooms are with 2 twin beds convertible to double.
On Lower Deck are located the spa, gym and dining room restaurant (named Floating Garden), which pampers with Continental cuisine and local dishes. Meals are served in a single seating, and passengers are able to choose where and with whom to sit. Breakfast and lunch are buffet-style, while dinner is a combination of buffet items and waiter service. Wine, beer and soda are served free with dinner. Bottled water is provided for free in each cabin (daily), but there is a charge when it is ordered at the bar.
On Main Deck is the riverboat's midship-located Lobby lounge (Reception Desk, Concierge Desk, Shop) and the fore-located Bar Lounge (hosting daily lectures, port talks, evening dance parties with live performances). On Sun Deck is the Wheelhouse (telescopic Bridge) and the swimming pool with sunbathing area (deckchairs, garden loungers) and shaded seating (tables and chairs) under retractable awnings. Free Wi-Fi is available shipwide (including in all cabins).
