MS Swiss Emerald Review
Review of MS Swiss Emerald
The 2006-built MS Swiss Emerald cruise ship joined Scylla's fleet in 2008. The riverboat's sisterships are the fleetmates Swiss Jewel, Swiss Sapphire, Esprit and Treasures.
Currently, the shipowner Scylla charters Swiss Emerald to the US cruise travel company Tauck Tours/fleet, as well as to VIVA Cruises (Scylla-owned subsidiary and travel brand established in 2021).
The riverboat (ENI number 07001825) is currently Switzerland-flagged (MMSI 269057212) and registered in Basel.
Cabins
A comfortable mini-suite (17 m2) and 11 double cabins (14 m2) are located on Emerald Deck. The Ruby deck features 20 suites (21 m2) and 2 mini-suites (17 m2); the Diamond deck has 14 master suites (28 m2), 2 mini-suites and two double cabins (14 m2).
All passenger staterooms are outside and have minibar, electronic safe box, TV, individual air-conditioning, hairdryer, shower, and WC.
Middle and Upper deck cabins are with French balconies and the whole Upper Deck is with Suites.
Shipboard facilities
The 361-feet Emerald has a stylish lounge with dance floor and panoramic bar, as well as a comfortable bar in the rear, all situated on the Diamond deck. In the ship's entrance hall, guests will find the reception, Travel Desk, and boutique. The elegant restaurant is located on the Ruby Deck. There is also a fitness room and an Internet corner onboard. The whirlpool is on the Sun deck. A lift connects all decks, except the Emerald deck.

MS Swiss Emerald Wiki
In March-April 2017, Swiss Emerald riverboat was drydock refitted and refurbished. Its passenger capacity was reduced from 118 to 98 (17% reduction) and the staterooms number was decreased from 59 to 49. The ship's reconstruction created larger public areas and bigger passenger cabins. The most extensive changes were done on Ruby (middle) Deck, where the 30x cabins (sized 14 m2 / 150 ft2) were replaced by 20x cabins (sized 21 m2 / 225 ft2). The ship already had 14x suites (sized 28 m2 / 300 ft2). Following the 2018 drydock, nearly 70% of all staterooms are 21 m2. On Diamond (upper) Deck "The Bistro" restaurant was renamed "Arthur's" and upgraded with its own galley (kitchen) and dedicated chef.
The same deckplan changes were done to the fleet mates and sisterships Swiss Sapphire (in 2017) and in 2018 - to MS Esprit and MS Treasures.
