Moby Aki ferry Wiki
The vessel was constructed by Fincantieri (in Ancona, Italy), under hull/yard number 6116. The powerplant is based on 4x Wartsila marine diesel engines (model 12V46C) with total power output 50,4 MW. The propulsion system consists of 2x driveshafts with Wartsila-made CPPs (controllable pitch propellers). The hull is ice-strengthened (1A-class).
Sisterships are Moby Freedom (now Finlandia), Pascal Lota and Moby Wonder.
During its scheduled drydocking in 2023, Moby Aki's propulsion system was upgraded with Promas Lite (by Kongsberg) combining into one unit the rudder, the CPP/controllable pitch propeller, the hub cap and the bulb. Moby Line's contract with Kongsberg Maritime (Norwegian technology company part of Kongsberg Gruppen) also included the same propulsion system upgrades for the vessels Moby Vinci and Sharden, as well as re-blading the propellers (model Kongsberg Kamewa) of the vessels Moby Wonder and Moby Tommy. The machinery order was signed by Achille Onorato (Moby Group's CEO) and Jouni Raatikainen (Kongsberg Maritime’s Executive Vice President Global Customer Support).
