Viking Vilhjalm

Longship Viking Vilhjalm boat cruises on Danube River in Austria, Germany, Hungary, Slovakia, departing from homeports Nurnberg, Budapest and Passau. This river cruise ship is named after William Longsword (893-942 AD) - half brother of Kadlin and son of Rolf (aka Rollo, first Duke of Normandy). Succeeding his father, William ruled Normandy between 927-942 AD. Rolf's great-great-great-grandson Vilhjalm ("William the Conqueror") became England's first Norman King. He invaded and conquered England in 1066.

Viking Vilhjalm is among the newest longships in Viking River Cruises fleet. The riverboat features innovative corridor configuration (patented design), modern engineering and technologies, signature Scandinavian-themed decor, premium stateroom amenities, itinerary-based and expert-led enrichment program, themed onboard entertainment, the efficiency of public spaces, the signature lounge Aquavit Terrace and numerous cabins with step-out balconies. Each of the Viking's longship-class riverboats also has two of the European river cruising industry's largest suites.

The boat (ENI number 7002034) is currently Switzerland-flagged (MMSI 269057546) and registered in Basel.

Cabins

Viking Vilhjalm has a total of 95 cabins (of which 9 Suite, 22 French Balconies, 25 with a not-opening window) in 8 grades. Longship Vilhjalm has two Explorer Suites featuring 270-degree scenery views and private wraparound balconies. The boat's 7 Veranda Suites are with two separate rooms - living room (with step-out balcony) and bedroom (with French Balcony). There are also 39 Veranda staterooms.

Shipboard facilities

The Observation Lounge has floor-to-ceiling glass doors for panoramic views. The Aquavit Terrace (indoor-outdoor lounge) is located at the ship's bow. The Sun Deck has sunbathing and shaded seating areas and offers 360-degree scenery views. Viking Vilhjalm dining options include Vilhjalm Restaurant (dining room) and Aquavit Terrace (al fresco). Other facilities include Vilhjalm Atrium (lobby), Library (Internet), Shop (gifts, souvenirs), Sky Bar, Herbal Garden, putting green, walking track, shuffleboard. The Vilhjalm longship doesn’t have a gym room, pool, jacuzzi, spa.

Viking Vilhjalm cruise deals are inclusive of Internet (Wi-Fi), all tours/excursions, ground transfers, live evening entertainment, daily lecturers, food and wine tastings, 24-hour coffee/tea, replenished daily bottled water.

• "DANUBE WALTZ" are 7-days river cruises from Budapest to Passau and the reverse from Passau to Budapest. These deals offer 4 countries to visit and 6 complimentary land tours/excursions, with an optional 3-night Prague luxury hotel package (Czech Republic). Passau embarkation includes bus transfer from Munich to Passau.

The Danube Waltz itinerary has a duration of 14-days (between Budapest and Passau) with one-way departures from Budapest (Hungary) and Passau (Germany). Bratislava (Slovakia), Vienna (Austria), Melk and Dürnstein (Austria) and Linz (Austria), with price-inclusive overnights in both departure ports (Passau, Budapest).

• 14-days PASSAU TO BUDAPEST cruises depart on: April 27; May 11, 25; June 8, 22; July 6, 20; August 3, 17, 31; September 14, 28, October 12, 26.
• 14-days BUDAPEST TO PASSAU cruises depart on: May 4, 18; June 1, 15, 29; July 13, 27; August 10, 24; September 7, 21, October 5, 19.

Viking Vilhjalm is one of the latest generation Viking Cruises longships. This is a new (patented) Viking river cruise boat design allowing bigger accommodations without the need to shrink public areas size and to compromise the vessel's general comfort. The Viking ship Vilhjalm represents the line's latest Longship-class riverboat design. Viking Cruises longships feature energy-efficient hybrid engine technology, solar panels and interior design by "Yran & Storbraaten" (Norway). The patented "longship" design ("Rottet Studios", USA) allows much larger passenger accommodations with full-size balconies. The additional cabin space is created by 1 m (3,3 ft) off-centre shifting of the deck's corridor.

Vilhjalm longship's godmother is Mrs Beryl Gibson (Northumbria Travel Limited / co-owner). The ship's naming ceremony was held in Amsterdam on March 1, 2016. Traditionally for Viking River Cruises, this was another "group christening" for 6 longships. Vilhjalm was christened together with the sister ships Alruna, Egil, Kadlin, Rolf and Tialfi.
